digigraphs

My development of digigraphs arose out of my experience with the processes of printing-making and etching; if you change your mind with a print or an etching, you can't go back and undo what you've already done. With Photoshop on a computer, you can use Layers, in the same way as in an etching, to build up depth, texture and composition, and you can delete them (temporarily or permanently) as you change your mind or develop your ideas.

Sometimes I draw directly onto the computer with a tablet; I also scan in images a lot, and I often use 'found objects' such as the wine and jam labels in Caune.

I often use photographs to play with scale - to create the impression of what I saw, not what the camera took - such as the tangle of plants, flowers, flowerpots and tools in Rectory Greenhouse , or the combination of buildings, towers, bells, shutters and windows in Flims.

So my digigraphs are a sort of collage without the glue.

You can buy any of these digigraphs. I find the best way of displaying them is to get them professionally printed onto canvas and mounted on a stretcher. Each digigraph is Limited to ten copies.

The regular size is 30cm x 40 cm or 40cm x 40cm,. The cost is £100 (including post & packing). I can also negotiate a price for larger or smaller prints (but the smaller prints aren't much cheaper). Let me know if you would like to buy one (mention the word 'digigraph' in your e-mail, or you may get junked !).

Udaipur on left captures the colour and warmth and shape of the Indian city of Udaipur; it originated from an etching I did way back.

Lemourountoumou, above, uses photographs as a basis to capture the arid browns of southern Mali, and the dazzling swirls of colour of the women's dresses
