After good night's sleep the trail continued across the pampas, the Cuernos del Paine on our left this time. We drove our pack horses ahead of us, and played cowboys. I felt a brief pang of sadness for people who have never ridden a horse and experienced the feeling of freedom that it gives you, the hypnotic drumming of hooves, the wind in your face and the feel of the power that is beneath you. An old Arabic saying is that "the wind of heaven is that which blows between a horses ears". No truer word was ever spoken. |
