Soon we were climbing again, the narrow tracks through the trees interspersed with meadows of clover, the scent of the flowers intoxicating in the sunshine. We stopped on a ridge to watch hundreds of pink Flamingo and Upland Geese on a lake. Soon we came across our first Guanaco (a lama like animal) and again, the mad scramble for cameras, afraid we would see no more! The next day we walked up into the mountains and saw a herd of about 500. We sat in the grass and watched them, and as the whole herd made their way towards us, we realised that it was they who were watching us. They were in a semi-circle around us and posed with the Torres del Paine in the background. It couldn't possibly have been better if someone had rounded them up and brought them to us.
